Lake Superior Brewing Company ~ Grand Marais, MI
Normally beer posts are about a single beer, but
not this place... haha... Was here long enough to have them all,
except the wheat beer (the bartender said it was light and kinda
whimpy). So, I had samples of everything and then pints of their
Belgian Gold, Pale Ale, and the Cabin Fever ESB. Wound up taking a
growler of the Cabin Fever ESB back with us. The Belgian was really
good! I was torn between which to get a growler of... I decided on
the Cabin Fever because the Belgian was more of a sipping beer. We
stayed here to eat some pizza and some of the best cheesy bread sticks
EVER! Cool tables, huh?
GeoCaching: Dutch Fred Lake Cache
N 46° 28.214 W 085° 58.630
This was probably one of the toughest to get to. You almost had to have
a truck due to the sand and rough terrain to drive back in to get to
this one. It was a long 6 miles drive back to it. Not to mention, we
were in the absolute middle of nowhere. It was cool! We got some cool
pictures of deer back in here too.
GeoCaching: Driggs Picnic Area
N 46° 20.662 W 086° 06.931
This was probably one of the coolest ever cache containers...
Basically, someone took that foam insulation stuff, Great Stuff, and
formed what appeard to be a rock with a jar inside of it. The painted
it up and stuck it under a log. As we fanned out to find it, Michelle
says, "found it!". Cool...
GeoCaching: Indian Outlaw
N 46° 22.417 W 086° 32.508
Quick cache grab on one of our days where we headed to Grand Marais,
MI... Cached along the way and had some fun exploring!
Scenic Area
Munising Bay... You can see Grand Island dead
ahead in the picture. If you look at the very far rightmost part of
the island, that is where the Grand Island lighthouse is located.
Grand Island actually protects the bay from the brunt of mother nature
when she is blowing from the north. I think that is a Holiday Inn or
something there in the left side of the pic...
Santa!!
One of the landmarks when rolling through
Christmas, MI... There isn't much here and we didn't stop and do the
tourist thing, we just did a fly by to get a couple pics and roll on.
Bad enuf that all the xmas crap will start rolling out in the stores in
a month or so, I didn't wanna get hit with xmas carols and ornaments,
yet...
GeoCaching: Paradise
N 46° 28.728 W 086° 46.024
This day... This cache was located in paradise!! WOW! We had a blast
hanging around the area! Way off the beaten path, there are actually a
few campsites within 50 yards of Lake Superior. We probably took a 100
or so pics with the cameras at this place. Awesome, simply, awesome!
GeoCaching: Scott Falls
N 46° 26.220 W 086° 48.885
We did way more GeoCaching than we took pics of... We would leave a
cache and I would say, crap, forgot a picture... Oh well, this was a
neat one! Near the shores of Lake Superior, these falls were actually
dry... That is because there hasn't been shit for rain! It is so dry
up here...
Pictured Rocks Sunset Cruise
I didn't snap any pics of the rocks with the
phone, but I did snap this one on our return trip back. Neat how the
camera was overloaded and put a black spot in the center of the sun.
Grand Island Lighthouse
Saw this a few times... If you do the shipwreck
or the pictured rocks cruise, you will swing by this.
Third Coast Ale ~ Bells
Man, Bells makes some kick ass beers! The porter
is probably their best, the oberon is great, the two hearted is
insanely good, the hopslam is really intense, and, the third coast beer
is no slouch in the great hoppy taste category. Had a really nice
thick head to it! Sticks to yer stache!! I really liked this
stuff!!! I didn't have a great glass for drinking on vacation, but it
worked.
Pictured Rocks... Miner's Castle
This was a super cool stop!! This crappy camera
doesn't do this justice, but we did get lots of other pics with our two
other digital cameras. They will be online, someday, maybe not for all
to view, but those closer to us may get a peek:)
Munising Falls
It was really hot while we were on vacation,
stopping by places like this helped, it was cooler back in these
areas. Cool falls!!
Dirty Bastard ~ Founders Brewery
When in Michigan, always look for some Dirty
Bastard from Founders!! Man, this scotch ale rocks! The picture
sucks! I have a couple bottle left to drink and I will snap a better
one later, promise!
Ahhh, vacation!!
My view, my mug, yessssssss!!!!
GeoCaching: Carol's cache or A Boatload of Lumber!
N 46° 22.594 W 086° 37.066
Wife and kids went caching while i went, um, well, caching out...
hahahahaha Michelle and the kids picked a ton of raspberries on this
one!! I left many raspberries!!
GeoCaching: Roadside Park in Powers
N 45° 41.870 W 087° 31.613
Second one in on vacation... Helps that it was less than a 1/2 mile
away from the first, haha! Tons of skeeters in here! Nice area!
GeoCaching: Cedar River Bend
N 45° 41.981 W 087° 31.847
Been a long time since we cached... On vacation and started caching again.
