Spank Me Baby! Barley Wine-Styled Ale
The Brewers Gone Wild series of beers from
Tyranena are "must haves" if you like wild beer! One of the reasons
that Founder's Brewery from Grand Rapids, MI is my favorite brewery is
that they brew the beer they want to drink... Much like Founder's,
Tyranena will never answer an e-mail, and they make some beers that
they must want to drink. Rob Larson must have a sick love for jacked
up beers... IMHO, they would be really smart to sell 4-packs
containing one each of the 4 beers that currently make up the Brewer's
Gone Wild series. I have had 2 of the 4 now. Hard to get this
shizznit up here in the wood...
So now, about this beer... I just had it with dinner an hour or so
ago... The flavors are still cast into my buds... This one had a
really complex aroma... My olfactory senses were in overdrive trying
to figure out what the hell I was smelling! Michelle and the kids
thought that I was gonna snort this stuff rather than drink it!! I got
hints of smoke, lemony/fruity, black licorice (could smell that more
than taste it, weird!!), caramel, pee?? Haha, just kidding about the
pee... I said that because it is such a complex deal, you never knew
what the hell they tossed in!! Good amount of alchy in this one, no
clue what it is at, but I would guess close to 9%. A nice reddish,
maybe orange colored beer... I sure wish I was better at this... All
I can say is well done and I will try to score some more in the near
future!
Ugly Ass Fish
Michelle hates this thing... Jake hates this
thing... Sam, Mike, and I like it because Mom hates it. haha... Now
when Michelle checks e-mail it will be just feet above her head, haha!
I think it is cool!
Do you like the Oktoberfest Maidens as my wallpaper??? I do!!
Christmas Ale from Goose Island
In the whole spirit of the season and all that
happy BS, I decided to get a bottle of Christmas Ale from Goose
Island. I am a huge fan of their Nut Brown Ale so I figured this would
be a safe bet. It was... A seasonal beer that hits the stores
November to January of each year. It was pretty comparable to the Nut
Brown, which made me hoppy, because I like that stuff. Poured more of
a redish color than a brown, but the flavoring was similar. I haven't
had a Nut Brown from them in a while, so I trying to make a recall
here. Mild on the alchy, about the same as the Nut Brown, but
definitely has more hops. You can never have too many hops!! If you
get a chance to sample some this holiday season, do so!
Sparrow Hawk Porter By Bob!
The first home brew to be featured in the MoBlog!
This Sparrow Hawk Porter is courtesy of Bob, a fellow beer
lover and former co-worker. Bob and his lovely girlfriend Carrie were
heading through Crandon on Christmas Day; heading to family's house
just down the road from us. Bob was kind enough to drop off three
bottles of his Sparrow Hawk Porter. This is Bob's third batch and I
must say, it is a really good porter! The head looks just like the
head of a Bell's Porter, thin and dark, but not quite as sticky. It
was very dark and tasted pretty mellow. I didn't get the details from
Bob on specific gravity and all that, but it doesn't seem to have a
high alchy content. A very tame porter, the type you could easily
drink a sixer of and not give it a second thought. Nice malty flavor,
but it didn't leave a long standing aftertaste on those taste buds way
back there. I may sound like I am picking on Bob's Porter, but trust
me, I am not... If and when I ever get to brew, i would be really
happy if my twentieth batch turned out this good! I think if I could
change one thing maybe more hops, to help that bitter follow... But,
that is easy for me to say. Bob is the man! Thanks for the beer,
Bob!! Next you need to work on better labeling, haha.
